BMW 330d Remap — Stage 1 Power, Torque & Drivability

The BMW 330d is the sweet spot of the 3 Series diesel range — a refined, effortless long-distance cruiser with serious headroom under the bonnet. Across the F30, F31 and G20 generations, the 3.0-litre inline-6 N57 / B57 turbodiesel responds to a custom Stage 1 remap with very meaningful gains: typically +60 bhp and +120 Nm more torque.

Boostcore remaps 330d saloons, Touring estates, M Sport variants and xDrive 4x4 models across Southampton, Hampshire, Eastleigh, Totton, Romsey, Fareham, Portsmouth, Winchester and the surrounding area. Whether you commute up the M3, tow a horsebox across the New Forest, or just want more shove for motorway overtakes, a Stage 1 file is one of the best upgrades you can make to a 330d.

Engine Variants We Remap

The 330d's 3.0-litre inline-6 turbodiesel appears in two main families:

  • F30 / F31 (2012–2019) — 3.0d N57N engine in 258 bhp (post-LCI 2015) and 286 bhp variants. Bosch EDC17C50 / EDC17CP49. OBD read on most, bench on the very latest protected units.
  • G20 / G21 (2019–present) — 3.0d B57 engine in 286 bhp variant. Bosch MD1CP002 on the latest units. Bench work on the MD1 ECUs.

Each generation responds differently. The N57 is well-understood globally with proven safe gains. The B57 is more tightly mapped from factory but the Stage 1 headroom is still meaningful. We confirm the exact ECU type and software level before quoting, so the file is matched to your specific car — not pulled from a generic library.

Real-World Gains

Typical Stage 1 figures for the three 330d variants. Final figures depend on your specific ECU variant, fuel quality and vehicle condition — we confirm after diagnostics.

The F30 330d is a brilliant long-distance cruiser with a properly lazy 258 bhp from factory. Stage 1 unlocks +60 bhp of easily accessible additional power and a much stronger mid-range for overtaking.

The G20 330d is one of the most refined diesels on the market. Stage 1 brings the power closer to the old 335d territory — useful for an already-strong engine that has plenty of headroom on the standard turbo.

The Touring variant gets the same Stage 1 file as the saloon. The estate's slightly higher mass is well within the safety margin, and the additional low-end torque is the most useful upgrade for towing or carrying load.

Figures shown are typical examples based on available tuning data for the 330d N57 / B57 platform. Final results depend on vehicle condition, ECU type, fuel quality, software availability and suitability for tuning. Exact figures depend on engine, mileage and condition — use our vehicle lookup for your specific car's estimates. Boostcore will confirm options after checking your vehicle details.

What you'll notice

What a 330d Stage 1 Remap Feels Like

More Mid-Range Punch

The 330d is already a strong engine, but the standard map leaves a lot on the table. A Stage 1 file lifts torque into the 680 Nm region, with the strongest gains between 1,800 and 3,500 rpm — exactly where you use the car day-to-day.

Easier Overtaking

The 8-speed ZF auto (and the older 6-speed auto) holds gears longer and drops down less. Overtakes on the A303 or M27 are much more confident — the engine is already in the meat of its torque curve.

Better MPG on Long Runs

On an economy-leaning map, motorway MPG typically improves 5–10%. The 330d already returns impressive MPG — Stage 1 makes it even better, particularly on long, steady motorway runs.

More Towing Confidence

For 330d Touring owners who tow caravans, horseboxes or trailers, the additional low-end torque is transformative. Hills and overtakes stop being a stress test, and the ZF auto works far less hard.

How We Remap a 330d

The job takes around 60–90 minutes on a 330d, start to finish, on-site at your home or workplace anywhere in Southampton, Hampshire or the surrounding area. Here's the workflow:

  1. Pre-job diagnostic check. We read fault codes, check live data (boost pressure, DPF pressure, EGR position, injector corrections, MAF readings, swirl flap position) and confirm the engine is healthy enough to tune. If something's off — a tired injector, a sticky swirl flap, a clogged DPF — we'll flag it before writing any new software.
  2. Read the original ECU file. Via the OBD port on the F30 / F31 and most G20s. Bench work on the latest MD1-protected G20 ECUs. Original file is saved — your safety net, and your return-to-stock file.
  3. Write the Stage 1 file. Calibrated to the N57 / B57 platform, refined for the 330d's power and torque output. The 8-speed ZF auto is matched to the new torque curve, and the throttle response is sharpened throughout the rev range.
  4. Post-job checks. Fault code re-read, live data re-check, a short road-test pull to confirm the car is pulling cleanly across the rev range. Original file handed back to you on USB for safekeeping.
Compatibility & Hardware

Stage 1 vs Stage 2, and What You Don't Need to Change

Standard Hardware

Stage 1 is software-only. No new intercooler, no decat, no intake, no downpipe. The OEM turbo, injectors, DPF, EGR and AdBlue stay. The car looks completely standard — useful for warranty, lease and resale.

Manual & ZF Auto

We tune both the 6-speed manual and the 8-speed ZF automatic. The ZF auto's torque limiters and shift logic are recalibrated to match the Stage 1 output — it works as BMW intended, but with the engine's full torque available.

Saloon, Touring, xDrive

Same file across body styles and drivetrain. xDrive 4x4 owners see the same gains as rear-drive owners — the file doesn't change the AWD behaviour, just gives the engine more usable output.

DPF & EGR

Stage 1 keeps the DPF and EGR fully operational. Regeneration cycles continue to run as designed. If your DPF is already showing signs of blockage, we may recommend a clean first.

AdBlue / SCR

AdBlue dosing and the SCR system are preserved. The N57 and B57 are sensitive to NOx system faults — we tune the file to keep the AdBlue system happy. If you're seeing AdBlue warnings or countdowns, we can diagnose those separately.

Stage 2 (Heads-Up)

Stage 2 — typically +80–110 bhp — requires a high-flow downpipe, an uprated intercooler, an intake, and a Stage 2 hybrid turbo for the bigger gains. We develop Stage 2 files in-house and quote on application once hardware is fitted.

Common Questions

BMW 330d Remap FAQs

Under UK consumer law, a manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty just because the car has been remapped — they have to prove the remap caused a specific failure. We save your original ECU file, and if you ever need a return-to-stock for a warranty claim, the file is restored to factory condition in about 30 minutes. We also offer a return-to-stock service separately if you need it.

No. The 8-speed ZF auto is rated for well over 700 Nm, so the Stage 1 torque figure sits comfortably within its limits. We recalibrate the ZF's torque limiters to match the new output, and the box works as BMW intended but with the engine's full torque available. We log the gearbox adaptation data after the remap.

You must declare the remap to your insurer. Most UK insurers either accept it with no premium change (common with mainstream providers) or charge a small uplift. We've never seen a remap-only claim refused. If your insurer asks, the file is calibrated to OEM safety levels and is fully reversible — we can return the car to stock in about 30 minutes.

Around 60–90 minutes on a 330d from start to finish, including the pre-job diagnostic, the ECU read/write, the post-job check and a short road test. The car is off the road for about an hour in total.

Yes — fully and at any time. We keep your original ECU file (and hand it to you on USB) so the car can be returned to factory standard in about 30 minutes. We also offer a return-to-stock booking service for customers who want us to handle it for them.
