A remap is a software change to the vehicle's ECU and may be detected by manufacturer diagnostics. We recommend discussing implications with your warranty provider. Boostcore can advise on the best approach for your specific vehicle.

Most Stage 1 remaps take around 1 to 2 hours including diagnostic checks. Some vehicles or mail-in ECU services can take longer. We will confirm timings when you book.

A remap is a modification and most UK insurers require you to declare it. Not declaring can invalidate a claim. Tell your insurer the power and torque before and after the remap (we supply these on the day) and ask them to confirm cover in writing. Some specialist insurers cover remaps at no extra cost; mainstream insurers usually add a small premium. If your insurer refuses cover outright, we can return the ECU to stock — see our Return To Stock service.

A standard Stage 1 remap that stays within the manufacturer emissions envelope will not on its own cause an MOT failure. The vehicle must still meet the relevant emissions standard for its age (Euro 6 for most post-2015 diesels). The MOT will check: emissions remain within the type-approval limit, the DPF is present and functional if originally fitted, the EGR valve is in place, and no emissions-related warning lights are active. We confirm all of these before completing the remap.

There are three main ways to read and write an ECU. OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) is done through the diagnostic port under the dashboard — quick, no parts removed, and suitable for most modern vehicles. Bench remap means the ECU is unplugged, removed and opened, then read/written on the bench — used when the OBD port is locked, when the ECU is encrypted, or for older vehicles. BDM (Background Debug Mode) is a low-level access method used on some Bosch ECUs that cannot be read via OBD. We use OBD where possible because it is the safest and quickest; we switch to bench or BDM only when the ECU requires it. We will tell you in advance which method your vehicle needs.

Most modern ECUs store the calibration checksum, so a dealer-level diagnostic tool (ODIS, ISTA, Xentry, Techstream etc.) can detect that the software has been changed. We always keep a copy of the original file and can return the ECU to stock on request — useful at lease-end, before a warranty inspection, or before selling the car.

Yes. A Stage 2 remap is intended for vehicles with supporting hardware modifications (downpipe, high-flow intake, intercooler upgrade, etc.) and is calibrated to take advantage of the extra airflow. We discuss the existing modifications before quoting. Higher stages (Stage 3+) involve internal engine work and are quoted case-by-case.

Every Boostcore remap is calibrated around the engine, mileage, fuel and intended use of the vehicle. If the result does not feel right within 14 days, we will review the file, adjust it or return the ECU to stock at no extra charge. We stand behind our work.
